What makes hearing protection indispensable
Good hearing protection is more important than you might think. Humans can hear sounds between 0 and 120 decibels (dB), and the louder the sound, the higher the number of decibels. Sounds below 0 dB we do not hear. Sounds above 120 dB do, but are painful and can permanently damage hearing.
This is because, unlike our eyes, we cannot simply close our ears. The hair cells in our ears receive an unexpected blow from too loud sound, so to speak. The result? Major, irreparable hearing damage.
To prevent this, many people use earplugs with hearing protection. These muffle the sound and thus reduce the risk of damage. In addition, they are comfortable with prolonged use. So you can work safely and pleasantly or enjoy your leisure time carefree.
When to wear or not to wear earplugs with hearing protection?
It's smart to wear earplugs starting at a volume of 80 decibels. And to make it easy, we use a simple rule of thumb for estimating: the volume is probably louder than 80 decibels if you can no longer understand the speaker at a distance of 1 meter.
