CENS – custom hearing protection for shooting sports

Electronic hearing protection made entirely to the shape of your ear canal. That seal is exactly what makes the difference with impulse noise: the shot is caught before it can damage your hearing, while between shots you carry on hearing range commands, your hunting partner and approaching game. In shooting sports and hunting alike, that is what counts. The Dedicated Power Button makes operation simple and intuitive, while the patented modular design ensures flexibility and a perfect fit. The Multi-Softness Earpiece offers outstanding wearing comfort, even during long sessions. For added versatility, passive modules are included, letting you tailor your protection to any situation. The Audinc Cens comes in deluxe packaging, complete with 36 batteries, so you can enjoy worry-free use for a long time. A low battery warning alerts you in good time when the battery is running low, and the digital push-button control lets you switch effortlessly between modes. On top of that, the Audinc Cens features a WaterShield hydrophobic nanocoating, keeping the device optimally protected against moisture and sweat – perfect for use in a wide range of conditions. With the Audinc Cens, you're assured of advanced hearing protection and ultimate wearing comfort, without compromising on sound quality or ease of use.

Why choose custom hearing protection for shooting sports?

Custom hearing protection for the shooting sports is fitted to you individually, so the earplug seals the ear canal along its full length. That gives you: optimal attenuation of harmful impulse noise; better communication during training or competition; sensitivity you set yourself; high wearing comfort during prolonged use. The modular design of the Cens keeps you flexible: you swap modules easily, or switch over to the passive modules. The Multi-Softness Earpiece gives you a stable, comfortable fit on top of that, even on a long day at the range.

Custom hearing protection for hunting, with digital technology

When you go hunting, you want to be protected against the shot without losing your surroundings. That is why the Cens is also custom hearing protection for hunting: hunting mode lowers the sound level at the moment of the shot and restores ambient sound immediately afterwards, so you keep hearing approaching game. The DX5 adds a wind-noise reduction algorithm to that, which works well in open or wooded terrain. Whichever version you choose, the housing is made to measure and you set the sensitivity yourself.

DX1 - User-adjustable volume enhancer

With an easy-to-use three-position push-button volume control, the DX1 lets you hold crystal-clear conversations while amplifying ambient sound, all at the touch of a button.

DX3 & DX5 - Advanced digital multi-switch

The DX3 & DX5 feature several electronic modes that give the user the best possible experience across every kind of shooting activity. This is achieved with a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), where each mode is optimised for the chosen activity and its associated ambient sounds. Featuring a range of digitally optimised modes and a mute function for different shooting disciplines.

DX3 & DX5 - Voice feedback

The DX3 & DX5 tell you by voice (English) which mode you're using and keep you informed whenever you switch between modes, so you're always aware of the selected mode. They also warn you when you reach the minimum or maximum volume level. In addition, you'll hear beeps as you step through the intermediate levels. Voice feedback is also given when the battery is running low or critically low.

DX3 & DX5 - Mute function

The DX3 & DX5 have a dedicated on/off button that also serves as a mute function, for those crucial moments when concentration is essential. The mute function is ideal for competition shooters; some prefer complete silence to focus on their stance and preparation before calling a target.

DX3 & DX5 - Automatic volume & mode memory

The DX3 and DX5 remember your last-set volume level and mode – even when the device is switched off or the battery is removed.

DX3 & DX5 - Hunting mode

Hunting mode is optimised for hunters. After a shot, the device responds by lowering the sound level, keeping the shooter protected from harmful noise levels. The sound level then returns immediately to normal, allowing the user to keep hearing approaching game.

DX3 - Tactical mode

Optimised for fast action while shooting, the device responds after a shot by lowering the sound level, keeping the shooter protected from harmful noise. The sound level then returns immediately to normal, so the user can communicate with their team.

DX3 & DX5 - Clay pigeon mode

Clay pigeon mode is optimised for clay shooters, where guns are usually fired at a faster pace and other shooters nearby are firing too. This exposes the user to more sustained high sound levels.

DX5 - Long-range mode

Long-range mode is optimised for users shooting larger-calibre weapons or in indoor environments. Ambient awareness is maintained, but the reduced output levels can make close-range conversation more difficult. In environments like these, double protection is still recommended.

DX5 - Wireless communication mode

Wireless communication mode is optimised for general shooting, retaining ambient awareness with the added function of wireless audio input via the supplied neckloop, or full two-way communication with the optional SRC harness.

DX5 - Hunting mode

Hunting mode is optimised for hunters and stalkers. This mode reduces the sound of footsteps on dry forest floor and grass, so you can concentrate on the sounds that matter. This mode also activates a single-microphone wind-noise reduction algorithm.

DX1, DX3 & DX5 - Passive modules included

When your modules are away for servicing or the battery is flat, you can switch to the passive modules.

DX1, DX3 & DX5 - WaterShield hydrophobic nanocoating

As part of the ongoing CENS product development and improvement programme, we have developed an advanced hydrophobic nanocoating system called WaterShield. The WaterShield biocompatible coating is an extremely durable "Teflon-like" amorphous carbon polymer coating that protects CENS devices against accidental exposure to liquids. Testing has shown that a hydrophobic coating can reduce water ingress by 3 to 5 times compared with an untreated product when exposed to simulated rain-chamber conditions. Additional benefits: Better protection against water; Increased reliability; More hygienic; Extends the life of the device.

DX5 - Wireless operation

The neckloop is supplied with the CENS ProFlex DX5. It is worn over the head (preferably under outer clothing) and plugged into a 3.5 mm headset jack. This transmits audio to the CENS ProFlex DX5 when wireless communication mode is active.

Battery life & ease of use

The CENS Digital electronic hearing protection runs on a size-13 zinc-air battery and is renowned for its exceptionally long running time. In normal use, a single battery lasts several hundred hours (up to around 400 hours), so frequent replacement is hardly ever needed. Once the protective tab is removed, the battery stays active for an average of up to about 45 days, depending on use and environmental factors. This makes the CENS Digital especially reliable for intensive use during hunting, shooting sports and professional work where optimal hearing protection is essential. The CENS Digital comes as standard with 36 size-13 zinc-air batteries, so you can put the system to long-term use straight away with no extra purchase. Benefits at a glance: Long battery life (up to approx. 400 hours); Reliable zinc-air technology; Batteries easy to replace yourself; 36 batteries included on delivery; Suitable for long-term and professional use.
